Compare mechanical belt fastener types
Use this overview to describe the joint you need. These are industry fastening families, not a list of confirmed RUNNING models. Ask us to confirm the offered type and its technical data.

| Solid plate systems | Plates form a joint without a removable hinge pin. Compare the selected model’s belt thickness, mechanical rating and pulley limits. |
| Hinged systems | A connecting pin joins the two fastened belt ends. A removable joint can help when belt length changes or the belt needs to be opened. |
| Light-duty belt lacing | Light-duty PVC/PU belts have dedicated fastening systems. Do not assume a heavy-duty rubber belt fastener suits a thin thermoplastic belt. |
Bolts, rivets, staples and other fixing methods describe how a particular system attaches to the belt. Match the installation tool to the exact fastener, not just its general appearance.
Three measurements to check together
- Belt rating: provide the belt data sheet and mechanical-fastener rating where available, retaining the units.
- Belt thickness at the joint: state whether the measurement is before or after any specified cover preparation.
- Smallest relevant pulley: provide its diameter and identify wing pulleys or other unusual arrangements.
These factors must be checked together against the chosen manufacturer’s selection chart. A matching thickness range alone does not establish suitability.
Prepare a complete fastener inquiry
- Belt width, material, construction, thickness and rating.
- Photographs of the belt and existing joint from above and below, with a ruler for scale.
- Existing fastener markings, pitch and connecting-pin dimensions if applicable.
- Conveyed material, moisture, corrosion exposure and cleaning requirements.
- Fasteners only, or fasteners with matching pins and installation tools; number of joints required.
- For Australian delivery: suburb, state, postcode and required date.

Common purchasing questions
Can I replace a hinge pin with any pin of similar diameter?
Ask for the pin specified for the offered fastening system. Give the existing fastener model and pin details; appearance alone is not a compatibility check.
Does a photograph establish the fastener’s load rating?
No. Request the technical data for the exact offered model and compare it with the belt and conveyor requirements.
Can a light-duty PVC or PU belt use mechanical fasteners?
Dedicated light-duty systems exist. Selection still depends on the belt, pulley arrangement and application. Confirm the specific system before ordering.
